Alfred Dansbury Biography

I was born and raised in Camden, New Jersey.  As a youth growing up in Camden I saw a vibrant, bustling city with industry and factories throughout.  There were no homeless and those without jobs were people that did not want them.  My family stressed education constantly and long before I graduated from high school I was preparing myself for college.  I attended Camden County College in Blackwood for one year and then transferred to Rutgers University, where I completed my B.A. in English.  During my undergraduate years I began studying photography and after Rutgers started working as a professional photographer and public school teacher.

After working as an English teacher in public schools in Massachusetts and New Jersey for several years, I took a position with the municipal government in the City of Camden Department of Planning and Development Division of Housing Services.  This position allowed me to learn all aspects of utilizing state and federal grant funds to finance affordable housing programs.  In addition to learning financing systems, I learned construction specification writing, and housing rehabilitation inspection processes.  After 12 years with the Division of Housing Services, I was transferred to the Finance Department Bureau of Grants Management.  This position involved reviewing and monitoring the financials of grant funded affordable housing project underway in Camden. I also learned the mechanics of grant writing and assisted with the preparation of grant applications to HUD for affordable housing grants.  After ten years with the Finance Department I was transferred back to the Division of Housing Services where I currently administer a federally funded rental assistance program under the HOPWA grant and monitor a second affordable housing program called the Area Asset Control Program.  This is a federal housing program where municipalities purchase HUD homes at a discount and then transfer them to developers for rehabilitation and sale to low and moderate income families.  We currently have purchased 68 properties under this program.

I obtained my real estate license in 1991 and have been selling and leasing residential real estate since that time on a part time basis.  Prior to coming to work for Exit Realty Tri-State Group I worked with Exit Realty of Cherry Hill.  I enjoy working with people and helping them find their dream home.  After earning a B.A. from Rutgers University I went on to earn an M.B.A. from Eastern University and an M.A. from Central Michigan University. I still enjoy photography and my photos appear throughout many of the Department of Planning and Development’s documents submitted to HUD.  In addition to working for the City of Camden I have been teaching reading and writing courses at Camden County College for the past ten years.
